WHAT IS AN ICC PROFILE AND WHY SHOULD I USE IT?

An ICC profile takes into account the characteristics of the printer, the ink and the paper and how these individual components work together to reproduce colour. A separate ICC profile is used for each type of paper you are using in your printer. By using an ICC profile you can obtain more consistent colour in your printing workflow. It is important to note that the accuracy of the ICC profile can be affected by variations in the printer performance. However these minor variations can be compensated for in the image editing software. There are services available at a low cost to have an ICC profile built for your printer/ink/paper combination.

HOW DO I USE AN ICC PROFILE?

The ICC profile is applied to your image in your photo editing software at the printing stage. Full instructions on using the ICC profile are available in the download section at www.harman-inkjet.com.

DO I NEED TO BE USING ADOBE PHOTOSHOP TO BE ABLE TO UTILIZE THE ICC PROFILES SUPPLIED BY HARMAN TECHNOLOGY?

No. Most digital imaging software such as Adobe Photoshop Elements, Microsoft Digital Image and CorelDraw allow you to apply an ICC profile at the output stage of the workflow.

EVEN WHEN I USE THE ICC PROFILE THE COLOURS DO NOT REPRODUCE PROPERLY.

It is very important that the instructions for applying and printing with the ICC profile be followed exactly to obtain good results. If the results are still not as expected you should check the printer to ensure there is sufficient ink and that all the printers ink nozzles are firing correctly. This can normally be done very easily within the printer software by performing a “nozzle check”.
