AOP AND HARMAN PHOTO LOOK BACK AT RED DOT SUCCESS
Unique exhibition and auction raises £1,500 for international eye care charity
Global eye care charity, Sightsavers International has recently received a donation of over one thousand pounds towards its important worldwide work. The greatly appreciated pledge comes courtesy of the Association of Photographers (AOP) and HARMAN PHOTO, who earlier this year staged Red Dot - a unique charity exhibition and auction.
Held at the AOP’s own gallery in Shoreditch on the edge of the City of London, Red Dot was open to all 1800 AOP members who were invited to supply examples of their work. The best pieces were then chosen for the 5 week exhibition which was open to photographers, art collectors and the art-loving general public alike.
In order to raise funds for Sightsavers, who work to combat blindness in developing countries through the provision of specialist treatment, eye care, training and counselling, a special auction of signed prints was held on the opening night. Prints of the exhibits were also on sale throughout the course of the entire event.
In addition, and to give AOP members added incentive for submitting their work, HARMAN PHOTO offered all entrants the chance to claim a free 15 sheet A3 pack of its HARMAN Professional Inkjet papers. These papers, which include a MATT FB Mp, MATT FB Mp WARMTONE and GLOSS FB AL, have developed an enormous following both in the UK and further afield thanks to their fine art feel and ability to offer imaging performance to rival premium quality silver gelatine papers.
Speaking of the event and the £1500 raised, AOP Gallery Project Manager, Rachel Rodgers said: “Our most recent Red Dot event was fantastic. Not only did it allow AOP members to showcase their work and but it also raised a considerable amount of money for a truly worthwhile cause. It was so successful in fact that we’re now eagerly looking forward to the next Red Dot event due to be held at the end of this year.”
Meanwhile, HARMAN PHOTO Marketing Manager, Nigel Player who attended the opening night and auction said: “Everyone at HARMAN PHOTO is genuinely proud to be involved with the Red Dot event. There was a real buzz about it and it’s great to be able to give something back to both the photography community and to a charity that makes such a major difference to the lives of people throughout the world.”
