HARMAN TECHNOLOGY UNVEILS NEW OPALJET DISPLAY MEDIA -
Imaging specialist enters universal ink jet media market

HARMAN technology Limited is launching a new, universal display media at Sign UK this week. HARMAN OPALJET LITE represents the next phase in the development of HARMAN’s pioneering large format display media range.

Also on display will be the rest of the OPALJET range, including the latest version of HARMAN OPALJET XLS, which has a new pricing structure that offers considerable savings for users of non-aqueous printing systems.

Garry Hume, head of HARMAN’s large format business, commented:
“With the introduction of OPALJET LITE and the updated version of OPALJET XLS to our range, we now have a comprehensive and versatile portfolio of display films that offer a perfect solution across all the major inkjet printer and ink combinations.”

Making its world debut at Sign UK at Birmingham’s National Exhibition Centre (NEC) from the 13th to the 15th of April, HARMAN OPALJET LITE has been developed to provide the highest quality results on modern pigment ink printers such as the HP Z6100, Canon iPF 9000 and Epson 10880. Engineered to provide enhanced versatility, the new media is also compatible with all older aqueous ink jet printers (both dye and pigment inks) such as those produced by HP, Encad, Kodak and Colorspan.

Garry Hume continued:
“OPALJET LITE provides cross-platform capability across multiple output devices at a highly competitive price. Supporting this new addition, the new pricing structure for OPALJET XLS adds to its significant benefits for those using new latex technologies, which include maximising the robustness and surface finish of these ink formulations.”

OPALJET XLS has a specially engineered tough coating that absorbs both latex and solvent inks, allowing them to cure and fuse within the media. This ensures a highly robust finish, superior image quality and wide colour gamut. OPALJET XLS also offers energy savings on latex printers, due to requiring much lower heat settings than many other media. The satin surface has also been formulated to match the surface reflectance of UV-cure inks and to provide excellent adhesion to these inks.

The original OPALJET films remain a key component of the range, providing the highest possible performance for older dye-based aqueous ink systems such as the HP5500.

All OPALJET products are manufactured using Melinex® polyester for superior flatness, consistency and dimensional stability.

The entire range of OPALJET universal media will be on display at Sign UK, on stand D.42 at Birmingham’s NEC this week.

The company - which was born of the ILFORD formed by Alfred Harman in 1879 - now includes three, separate and well known brands: ILFORD PHOTO which manufactures traditional monochrome photographic products; HARMAN PHOTO which produces a range of high-end inkjet media for both colour and monochrome prints and the KENTMERE PHOTOGRAPHIC brand for monochrome photographic products.

The ILFORD range of inkjet products, including ‘ILFORD Galerie’, is not associated with HARMAN technology in any way, and is actually manufactured and marketed by a separate business based in Switzerland.
