HARMAN TECHNOLOGY IS WINNING THE CLASS WAR -
From the darkroom to digital printing, HARMAN technology offers complete solution for photo educators.
HARMAN technology may have over 125 years of prestigious photography heritage through its renowned ILFORD PHOTO darkroom products, but the company’s passion for innovation in the inkjet media marketplace is another reason they stand out from the crowd, according to renowned photographer and photo educator, Richard Lohmann.
“While continuing to support darkroom photography with great ILFORD PHOTO products, HARMAN technology is using its expertise and experience to improve digital photo printing for us all,” states Lohmann, a Professor of Photography at the College of San Mateo, California.
“When I opened my first box of HARMAN PHOTO Gloss FB Al paper for testing, I realized immediately that this was a paper born from ILFORD PHOTO’s silver gelatin heritage. The look, the smell and the feel of the paper reminded me of its darkroom equivalent and I was amazed by the quality of the results.” He added.
Having previously written an article questioning the quality of inkjet photo papers compared with gelatin silver prints for The Luminous Landscape website, Lohmann’s experiences with HARMAN PHOTO Gloss FB Al inspired him to reassess the issue. In ‘The Surface of Things II’ Lohmann stated:
“My hope for the future of photography is that traditional and new digital processes are used side by side, for they each have their place. HARMAN PHOTO Gloss is a beautiful inkjet paper that simultaneously remains faithful to and helps preserve the traditions of photography.”
As HARMAN technology continues to grow and evolve its range of inkjet media, the imaging specialist released HARMAN CRYSTALJET RC papers earlier this year, providing a product that Lohmann believes is perfectly tailored to the photo education sector:
“As a Professor of Photography, I love HARMAN CRYSTALJET papers. In a teaching environment where students are producing prints, the cost, quality and durability of a paper are priorities. It is essential that educators and students use a print media that offer real value without compromising on quality and HARMAN CRYSTALJET RC strikes this balance better than anything else available.”
HARMAN CRYSTALJET resin-coated papers are engineered with the same precision and heritage as HARMAN PHOTO papers, whilst offering a more cost-effective option for students undertaking regular coursework or professionals proofing new work. Lohmann added:
“Prints made with HARMAN CRYSTALJET papers lay flat making them easy to store prior to mounting. This reduces the ‘casualty rate’ of prints and avoids reprinting, which can waste valuable lab time and add unnecessary costs to a photography program.”
Whilst the HARMAN PHOTO fiber base range will remain a focus for premium quality development, the manufacturers believe the new HARMAN CRYSTALJET RC products complete the family of media required by photography students.
Steven Brierley, President of Marketing at HARMAN technology said:
“We are thrilled with how photo educators on both sides of the Atlantic have received the HARMAN CRYSTALJET RC paper. We believe it offers the best balance of value and performance in the market. Whilst ILFORD PHOTO black and white products still lead the way for learning in the darkroom, HARMAN CRYSTALJET is the best medium for regular digital printing.”
