HARMAN PHOTO announces Focus plans

For immediate release
January 2009

Leading photo-imaging company, HARMAN technology Limited reveals plans for digital brand at FOCUS ON IMAGING 2009.

As the European photographic community gears up for FOCUS ON IMAGING 2009, HARMAN technology Limited has revealed major plans for its HARMAN PHOTO brand at the premier imaging event. One entire side of the manufacturer’s stand (stand number C2, Hall 9) will be devoted to this increasingly popular brand of inkjet products, whilst the other will be dedicated to its ILFORD PHOTO and KENTMERE PHOTOGRAPHIC darkroom ranges.

On this digital side, staff from the leading photo-imaging company will be waiting to tell visitors about the full range of media now available under the HARMAN PHOTO banner, including professional quality, fibre based papers such as a MATT FB Mp, MATT FB Mp WARMTONE, GLOSS FB AI and GLOSS FB AI WARMTONE. These papers draw on the same 130 years of photo-imaging expertise as the manufacturer’s ILFORD analogue papers and even utilise similar coating technology. This includes a full Baryta layer which is more traditionally used in darkroom developed papers to ensure greater detail and definition, an extended tonal range and unrivalled archival properties.

Having recently introduced HARMAN CRYSTALJET RC, the manufacturer also plans to give away sample packs of this new product (consisting of 5 A4 sheets in a gloss finish and 5 in a luster) tostudents or those purchasing other papers from its digital range. Introduced in Autumn 2008, HARMAN CRYSTALJET RC offers comparable levels of imaging performance to the existing HARMAN PHOTO products but at a lower price thanks to the absence of a Baryta layer and the fact that it’s a resin coated rather than fibre based paper. This lower price tag makes HARMAN PHOTO quality accessible to all photographers - from professionals right through to hobbyists and students.

To help mark the launch of this latest inkjet product, HARMAN will also announce the launch of a special student photography competition where entrants must submit prints on the new HARMAN CRYSTALJET RC in return for the chance to win a whole host of fantastic prizes. This includes a digital photography workshop and £100 worth of HARMAN CRYSTALJET RC for the ultimate winner, 6 runner-up prizes of £50 worth of HARMAN CRYSTALJET RC and £750 worth of HARMAN CRYSTALJET RC for the college that generates the most entries.

In conjunction with a number of its distributors, including RK Photographic who can be found at Stand H11, HARMAN will also be offering visitors to FOCUS the opportunity to buy HARMAN CRYSTALJET RC as well as the other HARMAN PHOTO papers at special discounted prices.

In addition and to highlight the impressive results achievable with its inkjet range, HARMAN will display a number of prints. Amongst the featured images will be a collection of shots from Jonathan Glynn Smith, including some from his recent exhibition depicting the build and launch of ‘Hugo Boss’ – a state-of-the-art, 60 foot racing yacht. Visitors will also be able to view the portfolios of selected students from Bradford College and The Manchester College.

Speaking of the plans for HARMAN PHOTO at FOCUS, Howard Hopwood, Chairman at HARMAN technology, said: “We always look forward to FOCUS ON IMAGING as it gives us the ideal opportunity to connect with so many people who share our passion for photo-imaging. This year, however, the anticipation levels are greater than ever due to the sheer volume of things we have to tell people about. In the case of our HARMAN PHOTO brand, this includes the launch of new products and the introduction of new competitions - and that’s just the start.”

HARMAN technology Limited is a pioneering imaging specialist based in Mobberley, Cheshire. The company - which was born of the ILFORD formed by Alfred Harman in 1879 - now includes three, separate and well known brands: ILFORD PHOTO which manufactures traditional monochrome photographic products; HARMAN PHOTO which produces a range of high-end inkjet media for both colour and monochrome prints; and Kentmere Photographic who produce a range of photography and inkjet papers, including K.Opaljet.

The ILFORD range of inkjet products, including ‘ILFORD Galerie’, is not associated withHARMAN technology in any way, and is actually manufactured and marketed by a separate business based in Switzerland.
